Return Trip

Well, I found our old blog and, even more impressively for me, I was able to log in...The last post below with young Bennett and an elephant was a couple weeks before we moved back to Minnesota from Zambia in May 2008.
In the 6.5 years we've been back our three little kids have all become teenagers/young adults - wow...Mackenzie is launched and heading to college at TCU, Clara is a Jr. at EHS and thinking more and more about college and Bennett is in 7th grade rapidly approaching my size.
The blog is being revived because we are heading back to Africa - at least 4 out of 5 of us are...The work I began upon returning from Zambia - helping large food companies engage in Africa - evolved into a new organization called Partners in Food Solutions.  PFS is a consortium of General Mills, Cargill, DSM and Buhler, 4 leading global food companies, whose expertise we aggregate and share with small and growing food companies across Africa.  We do this to help improve food security and nutrition by helping create or sustain markets for the crops of small holder farmers and by helping local food companies improve their products for local markets - essentially working to empower Africa to feed Africa and the world.
Since PFS started we have worked with more than 600 Africa based food companies and my board and I decided it was time for me to get closer to this side of our work for a season.  We are excited to get to re-engage friends and colleagues throughout Africa and we will be on the continent Jan 18th - Mid May.
We will be based in Nairobi, Kenya but traveling at different times to Ethiopia, Tanzania and Zambia seeing as many of our clients and partners as possible.
We will keep you posted on here as we go...we look forward to keeping in touch.
p.s. - Given the age of this particular blogging platform I don't think the subscription service works...We will try to remember to send out an email when we've updated - old school style
